After further inspection I realized that the hole that was made in the ammo can likely let oxygen into the ammo box, this was due to the insane heat of the fire and probably a really cheap ammo box, while some of the wood was charred, much was also burnt. Well I guess I will have to try to 55 gallon drum method…

I know a source of free almost unlimited coal. It pays to know your area and its history. Good video.
Did you remove the rubber gasket from the ammo can? In any case I wouldn’t expect an ammo can to remain air tight under intense heat, as you discovered.
Nate, mate….. You gotta watch to ensure you get the wood you are cutting fixed or more secure when using those Silky’s.. One slip and you will never forget..
THEY DO NOT TAKE PRISONERS… and will cut through a leather glove like it was butter.
DON”T ask me how I know…
PS when cutting a limb do an shallow under cut first… it will let the cut piece fall easily without any “dagging”, which can also give the saw opportunity to snatch and grab flesh or clothing.. try it.. will take you 2 minutes to see what I mean.. a shallow under cut (10-15%) first makes a lot of difference as the cut ends… and ups the safety.
Be well
Yes
Did a shoutout to ya…you beat me to the charcoal video by a day..too funny
can’t you harness the gasses emitted by this? I think it is known as wood gas
Charcoal is also used to make Pinepitch (glue) … you may want to put a hole in your drum/canister next time, the process creates gasses that need to escape, or else they build up pressure and can cause an ‘explosion’ in some cases (depends a bit how easy the gasses can find a way out of the container).
